Why Do You Need a WordPress SEO Plugin?

WordPress is one of the most powerful CMS platforms. It comes with in-built SEO features like meta descriptions, alt tags, permalinks, SEO-friendly themes, image optimization, and more.

Now, you might question that if WordPress is already equipped with these SEO features, why do you need a separate SEO plugin? That’s a valid question. Let’s discuss the major reasons an SEO plugin is essential to your WordPress website.

Why do you Need an SEO Plugin

Helps With On-page SEO Optimization

Just like WordPress, an SEO plugin also helps you implement on-page SEO features like focus keywords, meta descriptions, social sharing, alt tags, and more. This basically helps in optimizing your content for SEO ranking.

Offers Tools for Keyword Analysis

You may also observe the keyword SEO analysis functionality in some plugins. They help you research the best keywords and implement them into your content.

Creates Automatic Sitemaps

XML sitemap helps search engines in understanding the structure of your sites. This is where SEO plugins are helpful. They can automatically create XML sitemaps for your website, making it easier for search engines to find content on your site.

Broken links on your WordPress website can lead to a negative user experience and impact your SEO in a negative way. Thus, an SEO plugin can also check your site for broken links and fix them instantly.

Integrates with Social Media Platforms

Some SEO plugins also offer integration with social networks like Facebook and Twitter. This is helpful for marketing your blog posts and gathering more engagement.

Overall, SEO plugins can help you in optimizing your site for search engines and improve your website’s visibility. This would further lead to better search rankings, increased organic traffic, and more conversions.

How to Set Up All-in-One SEO?

Setting up the AIOSEO WordPress plugin is pretty simple and can be achieved within minutes. If you’re a beginner, you can follow the steps mentioned below in order to set it up on your WordPress website.

Step 1: Log in to WordPress Dashboard

Add new Plugin in WordPress

First, we will log in to our WordPress website. On the left panel, we will go to the Plugins section and click on ‘Add New’.

Step 2: Install AIOSEO Plugin

Next, we will search for the All-in-One SEO Plugin and click on the Install button next to it.

Install AIOSEO Plugin

Once it is installed, we will hit the Activate button to start using it.

Step 3: Launch the Setup Wizard

When the plugin is activated, it will automatically launch the WordPress SEO Setup Wizard. Here, you will need to provide the basic details about your website.

Launch AIOSEO Setup Wizard

This includes your site category, site title, and meta description. You can also upload a site logo and add your social accounts. After adding all the details, you can click on ‘Finish Setup’ and start exploring the features of AIOSEO.

How To Use AIOSEO Free Features?

Now that we have successfully installed and activated the All-in-One SEO plugin on our website, let’s find out its free features and how you can use them.

For using AIOSEO, you need to simply start editing any of your WordPress posts. AIOSEO options would be visible in the top right corner, right beside the WordPress settings.

Creating Awesome Headlines

The Headline Analyser tab analyses the title of your blog post and scores it on a scale of 100. A score between 70 to 90 is considered good. But if your headline scores anything below that, it also offers pointers for improvement.

AIOSEO Headline Analyser

Unlike other SEO plugins, the headline analyzer of AIOSEO takes a lot of factors into consideration. This includes word balance, character count, headline time, sentiment, word count, beginning and ending words, etc.

You can look at the feedback provided under every column and improve your headings accordingly. With the right proportion of different word types, you can craft an amazing headline!

AIOSEO - Test Headline Score

Alternatively, if you wish to test out different versions of the headline, you can click on the ‘Try New Headline’ tab and check your headline score.

Headlines play a crucial role in improving the click-through rate of your posts. I loved experiencing this feature a lot! It actually made me understand the impact of emotional and powerful words in any written text!

Optimizing Your Keywords

Next, you get the Meta Analyser that helps you optimize your keywords. It is available right beside the Headline Analyser Tab. This tab comprises 6 different fields for optimizing your posts. We will discuss all of them one by one. Let’s go!

Adding Focus Keyphrase

Here, the most important feature is the Focus Keyphrase. You need to enter the primary keyword that you wish to rank for.

AIOSEO - Adding Focus Keyphrase

It will analyze how well the keyword has been used throughout the post, including the title, meta description, intro, URL, etc. You can also insert additional keywords to improve your SEO score and fix more errors found in the Title, Readability, and Basic SEO.

Improving Content Readability

I liked the options in the Readability tab. It analyses the number of images and videos in your post, along with paragraph length, sentence length, passive voice, transition words, etc.

AIOSEO - Content Readability

If you want to enhance the readability of your content, I would recommend using ProWritingAid. I’ve been using it on my blog since 2020!

Add Smart Tags

One of the most impressive features of the free plan is Smart Tags! With this feature, you can create rich snippets for your blog posts. When you click on the Preview Snippet Editor, you can customize how your post title and meta descriptions appear on search results.

Smart Tags are versatile tags that can help you automate the updation of your SEO title and description. Post title, separator, blog title, author, etc are some commonly used tags. You can arrange them in the order that makes sense to you.

AIOSEO - Smart Tags

My personal favorite use case is the Current Year smart tag! As you know, I create digital tool reviews that need to be updated every year. And manually editing each one might take hours.

But with AIOSEO, I simply need to add a Current Year tag right after my post headline, and it will automatically display the current year! Problem solved! Cool, isn’t it? Most SEO plugins don’t offer this functionality. This makes AIOSEO stand out!

Customizing Search Appearance

This feature creates a knowledge graph of your website to display on search pages.

AIOSEO - Customizing Search Appearance

Here, you can update global information about your website, specify content types and redirection settings for image SEO, etc. Most of the settings don’t need any customization.

Integrating Social Accounts

Here, you can simply enter the URLs of your social media profiles. This will basically update all your social accounts when you publish a new post on your site.

AIOSEO - Social Networks

It lets you add 10+ social accounts, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, Tumblr, Pinterest, etc.

Creating Automatic Sitemaps

Sitemap is a file that has information regarding all content on your website, including pages, videos, and other files. This file helps search engines crawl your site in a better way.

AIOSEO Sitemaps

Make sure you enable the HTML sitemap and RSS sitemap under the Sitemaps settings. Video and News sitemaps are available on the higher plans.

Tweaking General Settings

First, you can experiment with some general SEO settings on your website. These features may help you organize your site and collect detailed analytics for improving your sales.

AIOSEO - Webmaster Tools

Webmaster Tools

Here, you can insert the verification code for Google Search Console and get detailed information about your site’s Google analytics.

Breadcrumbs

Breadcrumbs is a navigation method that helps visitors understand where they are on a website. It can be implemented on your site via Gutenberg blocks and is usually displayed on top of your website pages.

RSS Content

If you have an RSS feed on your WordPress site, this feature helps you automatically update it with the links to your latest blog posts whenever they are published. You can also insert site links and author links using smart tags.

AIOSEO - RSS Content

What I loved about this feature is that you can insert your customized information after your RSS feed. In case any user tries to generate anything through your RSS feed, your original site’s link will remain linked to it. This is a great security feature.

AIOSEO Pricing

Apart from the free version, the All in One SEO plugin offers 4 pricing plans. Following is a table comparing the major features of its plans. Let’s look at it below.

Free Trial

All-in-One SEO does not offer a free trial of its services. If you wish to use this plugin, you can start with its free plan, which offers access to limited SEO features like headline creation and keyword optimization.

Payment Methods

It supports payments made through credit cards and PayPal. I hope they introduce more payment methods in the future, like UPI Payments.

Refund Policy

You get a refund policy of 14 days on purchasing any paid subscription to AIOSEO. This means that if you’re not satisfied with your purchase, you can cancel the plan and get all your money back.

Best Plan

Well, the best plan depends on your level of knowledge and expertise in SEO. In my opinion, if you have a beginner-level knowledge of SEO, the Basic plan would be suitable for you. Whereas, if you are a professional, the Pro plan would work wonders for your SEO game!

How to Use AIOSEO Paid Plan Features?

The paid plans of AIOSEO offer dozens of impressive features to power up your website’s SEO. Once you purchase a plan, you need to activate it by entering your license key under the General Settings tab of AIOSEO.

Now, let us begin by discussing the striking features of the Basic plan priced at $49.60/year.

Using AI Tools

While you’re editing your blog post, you can find the AIOSEO icon in the top right corner. Now, under the General Settings, you can use AI tools for editing your featured snippet.

When you’re struggling to think of the perfect Post Title or Meta Description, this tool will come in handy! You’ll find an AI icon on the right corner of the title and description fields.

AIOSEO - Meta Descriptions with AI Tools

Simply clicking on it will automatically generate 5 meta descriptions and post titles.

However, you need to connect your ChatGPT account with AIOSEO to generate the results. For this, you simply need to provide the API key of your OpenAI account to this SEO tool. It makes SEO even more efficient.

Adding Schema

Schema basically helps search engine platforms understand what your content is trying to convey to your audiences. Schema can be of various types, like Article, Video, FAQ, Recipe, Person, etc.

AIOSEO - Generating Schema

You can select a schema as per the content you’re posting and insert all the details. In my opinion, Schema is a must-have element for SEO. If you’re a blogger, the Article Schema should be added by default on all your posts.

If you’re writing review articles like me, don’t forget to add FAQ schema or How-to Schema in each of your articles. Personal brands can insert a Person Schema in their web pages. A well-updated schema can be of immense help for ranking your posts higher on search engines.

IndexNow Integration

IndexNow is a service that helps website owners instantly inform search engines about the latest updates on their site. It automatically informs Bing, Yahoo, and Yandex search engines about any updates made to your site.

AIOSEO - IndexNow Integration

To activate this service, you simply need to go to the General Settings in the AIOSEO dashboard. Under the Webmaster Tools, you will find the IndexNow option. The API key will be auto-generated for you.

Unlimited Keywords

With the Basic plan, you also get unlimited keywords. While editing your blog post, you can add as many additional key phrases as you want under the general settings. This will help you target multiple keywords under every blog post to boost your SEO rankings.

AIOSEO - Additional Keyphrases

Alternatively, you can also use tools like SurferSEO, MarketMuse, and Frase if you want to rank for multiple keywords.

Next, we have the AIOSEO Plus plan which comes for $99.60/year. Let’s look at its major features.

Perform Local SEO

Local SEO is a strategy of SEO that helps you enhance the visibility of your business or personal brand in local searches.

To improve your Local Business SEO, you simply need to visit the Local SEO section of AIOSEO and enter basic details about your business.

AIOSEO Local SEO

These include your business name, type, business address, image, contact details, map, payment information, etc. These can be displayed on your site via Gutenberg Blocks. Keep reading to find out how to do that.

Perform Image SEO

Image SEO is essential for a good SEO score. With the Image SEO tool of All-in-One SEO, you can customize the image title, caption, alt tags, etc for images uploaded to your site. Let’s look at it in detail.

AIOSEO Image SEO

  • Title Settings – Here, you can use smart tags to decide the format of your image title. Apart from that, you can also omit certain punctuations and characters from the title and decide on a lower, title, or sentence casing for the image title.
  • Alt Tags – You can specify the format of your image alt tags and add additional smart tags like current year, etc.
  • Captions – Captions are the lines of text displayed below any image. You can enable it to give a brief description of your image.
  • File Name – For all files being uploaded to your site, you can remove specific punctuations, select an appropriate casing, etc.

Finally, we have the Pro plan that’s priced at $199.60/year. This plan is suited for experts and professional users who need advanced SEO features. Let’s check out the important features of the Pro plan.

Search Statistics

Here, you can get detailed analytics about your website, including visitors, performance, top-ranking pages, keywords, and more.

AIOSEO Search Statistics

To access this feature, you need to visit the Search Statistics tab under AIOSEO tools.

You can connect your Google Search Console account and it’ll display reports of your data collected from there in an organized and presentable manner.

AIOSEO Keyword Performance

Here, you can check out in-depth SEO statistics, Keyword Rankings, Content Performance, Winning and Losing Keywords, and more data displayed through colorful graphs and charts. I really loved the detailed reports it presented!

News and Video Sitemaps

With the Pro plan, you can enable news and video sitemaps as well under the Sitemap Settings.

AIOSEO - News Sitemaps

Video Sitemaps should be enabled for all kinds of websites, whether you post YouTube videos or upload custom videos to your site. Alternatively, enable the news sitemap only if you run a news website. Settings for these sitemaps don’t need to be edited.

Set Post Redirections

You can also set URL redirections for any web page on your website. You simply need to mention the source URL (the page you want to redirect) and the target URL (the page you want to redirect to). The type of redirect can also be selected.

AIOSEO - Setting redirection

On being enabled, it will make sure that anyone visiting the source URL is automatically redirected to the target URL.

It also has a full site redirection option, through which you can set automatic redirects for your entire website to a different URL. This is useful in case you are switching to a different domain name.

Check 404 Logs

Apart from displaying logs about clicks on your web pages, I really liked how AIOSEO also features a separate section for 404 Logs. This list comprises all the broken links that don’t exist on your site.

AIOSEO - 404 Logs

You can sort them by hits and find out what your users are searching for. The URLs receiving a higher amount of hits can be redirected to a different URL.

Conduct Internal Linking

The Link Assistant of AIOSEO is a powerful tool for internally linking your web pages. It shows reports on the total number of internal links, affiliate links, and external links on your site. It also shows in-depth link reports and domain reports.

AIOSEO Link Assistant

The Link Reports tab comprises Linking Opportunities and Orphaned Posts. Orphaned posts are basically pages that have received no links from any other URLs. You can link these pages with others, making it easier for visitors to access them and thus improving your traffic.

You can also use this tool while editing your blog posts to check the types of links in your post. However, it doesn’t offer any significant link suggestions. If you need link suggestions, you can use the Link Whisper tool for that. It offers highly relevant suggestions.

Adding AIOSEO Blocks

AIOSEO also offers some interesting elements for Gutenberg that you can integrate into your website for better SEO. These can be found under the Gutenberg blocks while editing your blog posts. Following are some popular AIOSEO blocks.

Breadcrumbs

If you wish to implement an easy navigation into your web pages, you can insert the Breadcrumbs elements on the top of every blog post.

AIOSEO - Breadcrumbs block

Once you select a category for your post, the breadcrumbs menu will display it as well.

HTML Sitemap

With this block, you can generate an HTML sitemap of your website. It will create a comprehensive sitemap listing all your posts, pages, and categories together.

AIOSEO - HTML Sitemap Block

You can add this to a separate page for easier navigation and access.

Table of Contents

The Table of Contents block is pretty basic. It displays all the H2 headings used in your post. You can choose your list style as numbers or bullets, insert links, and hide the headings you don’t want to display.

AIOSEO - Table of Content Block

However, I wish it also had the option to create a more detailed table of contents integrating H2, H3, and H4 headings.

FAQ Block

AIOSEO - FAQ Block

I really liked the FAQ Block of AIOSEO. It lets you add your questions and answers in a very seamless manner and displays them in a neat and organized way.

AIOSEO Pros

Quick AI Titles and Descriptions

If you’re struggling with generating titles and meta descriptions for your blog posts, AIOSEO also offers AI text generation. It integrates with your OpenAI account and uses ChatGPT to generate relevant titles and descriptions.

Impressive Schema Generation

You can generate various schema types, including Articles, videos, FAQs, Person, Recipe, and more. These are great for specifying exactly what kind of content you create on your website.

User-Friendly Interface

The user interface of AIOSEO has seen a lot of improvement since the last year. It is pretty neat and easy to navigate. Beginners will find it friendly and easy to use.

Can Implement Dynamic Years

One of my favorite features in AIOSEO is the ability to add dynamic years to your post titles and meta description. This is great for automatically updating my review blog titles as the year changes.

AIOSEO Cons

The Link Assistant of AIOSEO does not suggest relevant internal links within your blog posts. I hope they make improvements to it in the future.

Limited Free Version

The free version of All in One SEO only lets you optimize your headlines and keywords, and customize your search appearance. This is quite limited for an SEO plugin.

No Rank Tracker

The Rank Tracking functionality is essential for analyzing your blog posts and monitoring your competitors. However, this feature is not available on AIOSEO.

Now, we come to the main question – Who should use AIOSEO plugin? In my opinion, hobby bloggers or beginners in blogging can get started with the free plan. It offers basic features like headline and keyword optimization that newbies can explore.

For serious bloggers, paid plans of AIOSEO would be highly beneficial. The AIOSEO Basic plan is a must-have for any professional blogger. It gives you access to tools like Schema generation, AI tools, and the IndexNow feature.
