What is Depositphotos?

Depositphotos is a popular online marketplace for purchasing professional stock assets. These include images, videos, vectors, illustrations, vectors, and sound effects. Headquartered in New York (USA), Depositphotos was founded by Dmitry Sergeev in 2009.

Depositphotos homepage

Its USP is its enormous and constantly growing library of stock images and other resources. Recently, they have also introduced their very own commercially safe AI image generator. Depositphotos was acquired by VistaPrint in 2021.

Depositphotos User Interface

The user interface of Depositphotos is pretty modern and simplistic. As you log in to your Depositphotos account, you’ll find the search bar at the top where you can search for images, videos, illustrations, vector images, music, sound effects, or generate AI art

Depositphotos review user interface

Right below that, you can view your downloads, plans, and profile, and use handy tools like background remover, image upscaler, etc. On the dashboard, you can also view their collections, inspiration assets, free photos, etc.

Finally, notifications, account settings, active plans, and live chat support can be accessed from the top right corner. Overall, the website looks professional with a modern color scheme and responsive design.

Depositphotos Review Video

If you’re not much of a reader, here’s a video review of Depositphotos. In this video, I have covered the key features of Depositphotos and discussed its pricing and interface along with  pros and cons.

It’s in the Hindi language with English subtitles. Hope you enjoy watching! 🙂

Depositphotos Features

1) Extensive Asset Library

Depositphotos features one of the largest collections comprising over 286 million stock assets. These include over 270 million images and vectors, 15 million videos, and about 2 million music tracks and sound effects.

Depositphotos Photos Library

Another impressive feature of Depositphotos is the variety of assets. No matter what your use case is, you will certainly find a wide range of high-quality results in their library. If you already have a reference image, you can upload it and search for similar ones.

I was really impressed with the image library of Depositphotos. However, its video library is pretty average. I hope they work on building and improving their video library in the future.

2) Lots of Search Filters

Surfing through thousands of images to find the perfect one can be a struggle. This is where filters can be helpful. Depositphotos offers a range of filters to help you narrow down to exactly the type of image you need for your project.

Depositphotos Filters

For example, if you are searching images for “business woman”, it lets you choose the specify the image orientation, and select the number of people with their age, gender, ethnicity, point of view, color, location, season, time of day, etc.

Further, you can also specify the keywords to exclude, date, editor, etc. All of these filters are helpful in improving precision and saving time while searching for high-quality stock photos.

3) Character Consistency

Achieving character consistency with free stock platforms is a struggle. It’s almost impossible to find the same model in different poses and facial expressions. This is where Depositphotos shines.

Depositphotos - Model consistency

Once you find a character you like, you can simply click on the “Same Model” option below the image to check out the model in different stances and expressions.

Using images with different models in your blog posts, apps, ads, or videos may create confusion and distrust in your audience. Whereas, with consistent characters, your projects look more professional and authentic. I use Depositphotos mainly for finding consistent characters.

4) Excellent Collections

If you want to browse through theme-based assets, check out Depositphotos collections.

Depositphotos -collections

It comprises thousands of handpicked images, vector images, illustrations, and videos according to trending themes. You can type in a keyword or category to check out a collection. For instance, here are the results when I searched for the “Holi” collection.

Depositphotos Holi collection

The images were super colorful and captivating! These are great for inspiration and for following up with the latest trends. If you create content around trends like festivals, aesthetics, lifestyle, seasons, etc, then Depositphotos collections are a goldmine of inspiration for you!

5) Multiple Export Dimensions

Once you find the right image, you can download it as a JPG file in a dimension of your choice.

Depositphotos export dimensions

For Standard Licenses, you get 4 different dimensions – Small, Large, Extra Large, and Super. The largest dimension you can download with a Standard License is 12824 × 8590.

5) AI Image Generator

Recently, Depositphotos has partnered with Bria AI and launched its AI image generation tool. To get started, you simply need to supply your image prompt in the search bar. It generates 4 images.

Depositphotos AI image generator

For example, here’s an image generated with the prompt “A majestic phoenix reborn from digital ashes in a blaze of holographic flames.” In my opinion, the results were inconsistent. Some of the AI generated images were good, while others were pretty average.

I don’t think the image quality is refined right now. There are no additional settings or customization options either. If you want some really cool and captivating images, check out these Free AI Art Generators.

Additional Tools on Depositphotos

Besides the primary features mentioned above, here are some additional tools that Depositphotos offers for free.

1) Background Remover

This free tool conveniently removes the background from your images and videos. All you need to do is upload your image or video file. It supports images up to 30 MB in size and videos up to 2 GB in size.

Depositphotos background remover

Once the background is stripped off, you can edit your image and clear out any remaining elements from the background.

2) Image Upscaler

Image Upscaler helps you enhance the resolution of your images. By default, it transforms your uploaded image into 2x of its current resolution.

Depositphotos Image Upscaler

I tried upscaling a few images with this tool and received pretty good results. It’s a super handy solution for quickly upscaling your pictures.

3) Reverse Image Search

Sometimes we have a certain image and wish to find similar licensed ones for our projects. This is where the Reverse Image Search feature comes in handy.

Depositphotos Reverse Image Search

All you have to do is upload your reference image and it will fetch thousands of similar ones to pick from its library. The above image depicts licensed photos similar to the picture of a flower garden I uploaded as a reference. Overall, this is a really helpful tool.

4) Logo Maker

The Logo Maker is a tool by VistaPrint. Here, you begin by specifying your business name, industry, and tagline. Then you can select the categories for icons you’d like in the logo and the locations where the logo will be displayed.

For example, I tried generating a logo for the brand “Cyberclaw Technologies”, and here are the variations.

Depositphotos Logo Maker

I found the logos generated were pretty decent. You can also customize the icons, text, etc. But to download it, you need a Vista account. If you want super creative 2D and 3D logos, you can try Logo Diffusion

Depositphotos Pricing

You get two types of pricing plans on Depositphotos – Subscriptions and One-time Packs.

Subscription Plans

The subscription plans are of 3 types according to the payment duration – Annual Monthly, Annual Upfront, and Month to Month. The following table depicts the pricing of the Images and Vectors subscription plan.

Monthly ImagesAnnual Monthly PriceAnnual Upfront PriceMonth-to-Month Price
10$8.99/mo$99/year$9.99/mo
75$59/mo$649/year$69/mo
150$89/mo$899/year$99/mo
750$169/mo$1699/year$199/mo

The interesting thing about the Photos and Vectors subscription plan is that they roll over up to 120 unused image downloads to the next month. However, for videos and music subscription plans, unused credits are not carried over to the next month.

One-time Packs

One-time packs are more flexible where you can get a limited number of images for a one-time fee. The pricing for the Standard License and Extended License packs is mentioned in the table below.

ImagesStandard LicenceExtended License
5$29$69
10$49$295
25$79$975
125$219N.A.

Depositphotos AppSumo Deal

The regular pricing of Depositphotos may seem a tad bit expensive for average users. Therefore, you should check out its attractive lifetime deal on AppSumo.

The lifetime deal of Depositphotos is priced at $39 on AppSumo. With this deal, you get 100 one-time photo/vector download credits with 100 one-time AI image generator credits. All images are royalty-free and can be used for commercial purposes, both online and in print.

Depositphotos AppSumo Deal

If you are an agency or a business requiring more photo/vector credits, you can opt for higher plans by stacking more codes. I think it’s a steal deal compared to its regular pricing plans!

Depositphotos Licenses

You get two different types of licenses with Depositphotos. Let’s discuss their limitations and use cases below.

1) Standard License

The Standard License limits the copies and prints of your image to 500k units. You also cannot use these images for resale or distribution where the image is a major value-adding element. For instance, on mugs, t-shirts, etc.

This license is best for personal projects, blogs, videos, website content, ads, etc. All the AppSumo plans offer the Depositphotos Standard License.

2) Extended License

The Extended License allows unlimited copies and prints of the licensed image. It can be used for resale and redistribution, where the image acts as a major value-adding element. This type of license is best for larger projects like book or magazine covers, banners, posters, etc.

Depositphotos Support

Depositphotos offers customer support through the following channels – Email, live chat, and phone in various countries. Some users complained about the support offered by Depositphots.

But I personally found the live chat support to be really helpful and polite. The waiting time was minimal, and the replies were fast and very informative.

Depositphotos Tutorials

They also have a tutorials page where you’ll find helpful tips and tutorials on using their platform efficiently. Overall, the support offered by Depositphotos is really impressive.

Depositphotos Pros

1) Large Asset Library

The Depositphotos library comprises a massive collection of over 286 million stock assets. This includes images, videos, illustrations, sound effects, audio, vectors, and more.

2) High-Quality Images

You will find a collection of stunning and high-resolution images and illustrations on Depositphotos to elevate your projects.

3) Affordable AppSumo Deal

For budget-conscious users, Depositphotos offers a lifetime deal on AppSumo for just $39. With this deal, you can get access to their professional assets at a fraction of the original cost!

4) Flexible Pricing Options

You get a range of pricing options, including subscription plans and one-time payments. You can choose your preferred option according to the requirements of your project.

5) Excellent Search Filters

Depositphotos offers intuitive filters to narrow down your image search. It helps you quickly find exactly what you are looking for by filtering through image type, orientation, color, seasons, gender, location, and more.

6) Modern Interface

The user interface of Depositphotos is clean, modern, and fairly easy to navigate for beginners. It features a minimalistic design and is well organized, so you can quickly find what you need.

7) Helpful Customer Support

Their customer support team is quite helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable. With a minimal waiting time, they can solve all your queries and resolve issues.

Depositphotos Cons

1) Limited Video Library

I found the videos and vectors library of Depositphotos quite limited and lacking variety. So, if you need professional-quality videos for your projects, I won’t recommend this platform.

2) Average AI Image Generator

The AI image generation capabilities of Depositphotos are pretty average at the moment. They can improve their AI models to enhance the precision of images produced.

3) No Roll Over of Unused Downloads on Video and Music Plans

Depositphotos only allows the unused downloads in the Photos and Vectors subscription to be rolled over to the next month. However, with Video and Music subscription plans, no unused downloads are rolled over.

4) Expensive Regular Plans

Besides the lifetime AppSumo deal, the regular plans of Depositphotos may be slightly expensive for the average user. It is best to get the AppSumo deal. They keep on re-launching it every 3-4 months. So, you can get it at super affordable prices.

Should you use Depositphotos?

Depositphotos offers a superb collection of images and other assets. You can search through a wide variety of images with advanced filters and model consistency. This platform is also reasonably priced compared to alternatives like Shutterstock, Adobe Stock, iStock, etc.

I primarily use Depositphotos to find consistent characters or models for my blogs, videos, and marketing assets. Model consistency adds a professional touch to your creative assets. Usually, free stock photo platforms don’t offer the same character in different poses and expressions.

Thus, if you need professional quality assets for your projects with model consistency, Depositphotos would be worth it for you.

Who Should Use Depositphotos?

Depositphotos is a great investment for anyone who wants professional quality images without hiring a photographer. Its library of creative assets caters to a variety of categories and makes it ideal for bloggers, content creators, designers, editors, marketing agencies, etc.

But if you just need free images to use on your personal blogs, social media, and videos, Depositphotos may not be of much use to you. Instead, you can check out Unsplash, Pexels, Pixabay, or any of these Copyright Free Image Platforms

Depositphotos Alternatives

1) Shutterstock

Shutterstock is one of the most popular online stock media libraries. Similar to Depositphotos, it features images, vectors, sound effects, illustrations, videos, and audio. It also goes one step ahead to offer designing, editing, and content generation tools.

Unlike Depositphotos, Shutterstock has a massive library of over 700 million images. But this comes at an expensive price. The image plans of Shutterstock start from 10 images for $49/month.

2) Envato Elements

Envato Elements is a renowned online marketplace for finding digital assets. It has an extensive library of stock videos, sound effects, and photos, with good filters and affordable pricing, just like Depositphotos.

However, it stands out by offering graphic templates, presentation templates, and fonts. Video editors, graphic designers, bloggers, and freelancers will find Envato Elements as the perfect alternative to Depositphotos for finding premium quality media assets at affordable rates!

The subscription plan of Envato Elements starts at an attractive pricing of $16.50/month.

Why Should You Trust Me?

I’ve been working full time in the digital industry since 2015. In these years, I’ve used hundreds of digital tools and platforms. I’ve experimented with free and paid stock asset platforms for finding quality images, videos, and illustrations for my personal and professional projects.

Envato Elements, Placeit, and Canva are some notable examples. I’ve also tested dozens of platforms offering copyright-free images, free stock videos, free music tracks, free fonts, etc. Testing out so many tools has given me the knowledge and experience to suggest the right one for your needs.

Conclusion

Depositphotos offers an expansive library of millions of high-quality stock assets. I also liked its advanced filters, modern interface, friendly support, and flexible pricing plans. However, its video library and AI image generator can be improved.

Hobby bloggers and general users who need images for personal projects won’t require a Depositphotos subscription. It would only be valuable for professionals who are into app development, blogging, freelancing, content creation, and marketing industries.

If you need high quality images for your creative projects and print media, or need specific types of images, Depositphotos could be a valuable purchase for you. For these use cases, it’s much better than free stock photo platforms and even Canva Pro.

At the moment, the AppSumo deal of Depositphotos is live. 100 high-quality photos for a lifetime at just $39 is definitely worth considering. So, go ahead and grab the offer right away!

I hope this Depositphotos Review helped you understand the key features and use cases of this platform. Have you used Depositphotos? What did you like about it most? Where do you find good quality stock assets for your projects? Share with me in the comments below.

Anyway, this is Kripesh signing off. I’ll be back with more informative content soon. Cheers, and keep learning. 🙂
