What are Domain Name Registrars?
A domain name registrar is a company that sells and manages domain names. It’s like a middleman between you and the central authority that controls all domain names (like ICANN).
Domain registrars handle everything, from registering your domain name, linking it to your website, managing renewals, transfers, privacy protection, and more. They also offer additional tools, like website builders, email hosting, web hosting, security features, etc.
Examples of popular domain name registrars include GoDaddy, Dynadot, Namecheap, Domain.com, etc.
What are Domain Extensions?
Domain Extensions, or Top-Level Domains (TLDs), are the letters that come after the dot in a domain name. For example, in Amazon.com, the domain extension is “.com.” Domain extensions help categorize websites and clarify their location or purpose.

The domain registration costs on Hostinger are pretty reasonable. Besides this, the domain renewal costs are also at par with Namecheap.

Conclusion
Hostinger offers affordable domain registrations, free privacy protection, an easy-to-use UI, and a handy AI domain generator. It is great for first-time buyers and existing users of Hostinger hosting.
However, it is not for bulk domain management. It’s best suited for beginners who prefer ease of use and for Indian users who prefer UPI payments.
3) Spaceship
Spaceship is a new digital platform that offers domain registrations, web hosting, email, and security services. Launched in 2023, it’s a product of Namecheap, one of the largest and most popular domain registrars. Spaceship doesn’t upsell its services, just like Namecheap.
Key Features
1) Affordable Domain Registrations and Renewals
Registering a domain name on Spaceship is quite affordable. For instance, a .com domain costs $8.88 for the first year, and costs $9.98 to renew. Whereas, the domain transfer costs $9.48.

5) Spaceship Beast Mode

6) Extended Grace Period
Where other domain registrars usually offer a 30-day renewal grace period, Spaceship offers an extended grace period of 42 days. This means that if your domain expires, you can renew it at the same cost for up to 42 days after its expiry.
Cons
1) No AI Domain Generator
Spaceship doesn’t offer an AI domain generator to help you get creative name ideas.
2) New Service
It is quite a new service, launched just two years ago. It needs to consistently perform and offer reliable services to build the customers’ trust.
2) High Redemption Price
Spaceship charges a massive $41 to redeem a .com domain. This is quite expensive.
Pricing
TLD | Registration | Renewal |
.com | $8.88 | $9.98 |
.org | $5.62 | $9.80 |
.net | $11.20 | $11.20 |
.ai | $137.96 | $68.98 |
.in | $5.18 | $5.18 |
Conclusion
Spaceship is a no-nonsense, budget-friendly registrar with transparent pricing, free domain privacy, good UI, and an impressive bulk search tool for domain investors. It is cheaper compared to Namecheap.
While it lacks an AI domain generator and charges a steep redemption fee, it’s a solid pick for users who value affordability, ease of use, and bulk domain management without any pushy upsells. Right now, I cannot recommend it in the #1 spot because it’s fairly new.
4) Dynadot
Dynadot is a popular domain registration and web hosting company founded by Todd Han in 2002. With 500+ domain extensions available, Dynadot is managing over 6 million domains as of now. They offer a transparent and clean checkout process with no upsells and distractions.
Key Features
1) Constant Pricing for most TLDs
Dynadot offers domain registrations at affordable rates. But the best thing about it is that it maintains a constant price for most domain registrations, renewals, and transfers. For instance, a .com domain would cost $10.86 to register, renew, and even transfer!
2) Freebies with Domain Registration
When you register a domain on Dynadot, you get free domain privacy that safeguards your personal information. Besides that, you get domain forwarding options, and free add-ons like website builder, logo builder, email service, and registry lock.
3) UPI Payments Supported
Dynadot supports a variety of payment methods, including Credit Cards, PayPal, Skrill, Alipay, Payoneer, and Account Credit. You get credit card and UPI methods for making payments in Indian Rupees.
4) Powerful AI Domain Search
Dynadot employs AI to help you search for your dream domain. All you need to do is enter your keywords or a description. You can then filter the generated ideas by character count, TLDs, or add a prefix or suffix.
5) Dynadot Domain Marketplace
Besides offering new domain registrations, Dynadot also has its own Domain Marketplace where you can list, sell, and purchase expired domains.
6) Supports Grace Deletion
Dynadot has a unique feature called Grace Deletion. It lets you purchase and test how a domain performs. If you’re not satisfied with it, you can return it within the grace deletion period. This period varies by TLD, but the maximum grace deletion window is about 15 days.
7) Bulk Discounts
Though the price is quite affordable, Dynadot also offers bulk discounts if you spend $500 in a year on their domain services.
Cons
1) UPI Payment Verification Delays
When you make UPI payments on Dynadot, sometimes the verification can take up to 24 hours. I have faced this issue multiple times on Dynadot.
2) Blocked Multiple Times in India
Since 2023, Dynadot has been blocked multiple times in the Indian region for extended periods.
Pricing
TLD | Registration | Renewal |
.com | $10.86 | $10.86 |
.org | $6.99 | $10.50 |
.net | $12.50 | $12.50 |
.ai | $74.90 | $74.90 |
.in | $5.62 | $5.62 |
Conclusion
Dynadot is great if you want simple and affordable domain registration. It gives you free tools like email, logo maker, and domain privacy, with no hidden costs. You also get bulk discounts, making it ideal for bulk domain purchases.
However, looking at its history in India and issues with UPI payments, I feel like they are not completely focused on the Indian market. It’s a decent choice for beginners, budget-conscious users, and anyone who wants a clean and easy domain registration.
5) Cloudflare Domains
Cloudflare is one of the most popular CDN service providers on the Internet. Besides CDN, it also offers security tools and a domain registration service. Cloudflare is known for its constant pricing and renewals, and a transparent checkout process with no upsells.
Key Features
1) Constant Pricing
Cloudflare doesn’t add markup charges on domain registrations, renewals, and transfers. So, if you purchase a .com domain, the registration, renewal, and transfer – everything costs $10.44. It lets you register a domain for up to 9 years in one go!
2) Free Domain Privacy
To safeguard your contact details from being leaked to the world, Cloudflare offers domain privacy for free. It remains active for as long as you have your domain registered with them.
3) Extended Grace Period
Unlike other domain registrars, Cloudflare offers an extended renewal grace period of 40 days. So, when your domain expires, you can renew it for the same price up to 40 days after its expiry.
Cons
1) Limited TLDs Supported
Cloudflare offers support for a limited 350+ domain extensions. Unfortunately, you cannot register the popular .in domain extension on Cloudflare!
2) Poor Support
Because Cloudflare doesn’t charge any markup fee, the customer support you get specifically for domains is below average.
3) Cannot Change Nameservers
If you have registered a domain name on Cloudflare, it is mandatory to use the Cloudflare nameservers with it. You cannot change the nameservers or use your own DNS.
4) No AI Domain Generator
Cloudflare doesn’t feature an AI domain generator to help you brainstorm creative names for your business.
5) Limited Payment Methods
You can only make payments on Cloudflare via credit cards and PayPal.
Pricing
TLD | Registration | Renewal |
.com | $10.44 | $10.44 |
.org | $7.50 | $10.11 |
.net | $11.84 | $11.84 |
.ai | $70 | $70 |
.in | N.A. | N.A. |
Conclusion
Cloudflare keeps things simple with constant pricing, free lifetime domain privacy, and a generous 40-day renewal grace period. However, it doesn’t have a lot of TLD options, offers poor support, and only works with Cloudflare nameservers. Thus, I would only recommend it to advanced users.
6) Porkbun
Porkbun is an ICANN-accredited domain registrar founded by Ray King and Peter Brual in 2014. It’s based in the Pacific Northwest and is an easy-to-use and affordable domain registrar. Interestingly, Porkbun doesn’t upsell its services at checkout!

1) Constant Pricing
The best thing about Porkbun is that it offers domain registrations and renewals at a fixed price that’s affordable. For instance, a .com domain can be registered and renewed for just $11.06!
2) Freebies with Domain
When you purchase a domain from Porkbun, you get various freebies. This includes free domain privacy, SSL, URL forwarding, email forwarding, and free trials of web hosting and email.
3) Multiple Payment Methods
There are various methods to make payments on Porkbun. It supports credit cards, PayPal, Apple Pay, Ali Pay, Google Pay, Bank accounts, and even Cryptocurrency.
4) Good AI Domain Generator
It also features an AI domain name generator. You simply need to enter your keywords and choose a TLD. By default, the AI chooses available TLDs for you. The results display domain name ideas with registration and renewal prices.
5) Lots of TLDs Supported
Porkbun currently supports more than 560 domain extensions. So, whether you are looking for a gTLD, ccTLD, or a nTLD, you can find a lot of great options here.
Cons
1) Old User Interface
The user interface of Porkbun feels old and outdated. Additionally, their website is quite slow to load as well. I hope they revamp their design and appearance soon.
2) Limited Support
Porkbun offers customer support via a knowledge base and email. It doesn’t offer live chat support like other reputable registrars.
3) Registration Requires Identity Verification
Unlike other registrars, Porkbun requires you to verify your identity before creating an account. This is not seen on other domain registrars.
Pricing
TLD | Registration | Renewal |
.com | $11.06 | $11.06 |
.org | $10.72 | $10.72 |
.net | $12.50 | $12.50 |
.ai | $72.40 | $72.40 |
.in | $6.45 | $6.45 |
Porkbun also runs 1st-year sales on domain registrations. So, the domain registration prices for some TLDs may be lower than the ones mentioned here.
Conclusion
Porkbun is a budget-friendly registrar with fixed pricing, lots of freebies, no upsells, and an AI-powered domain search. Though its website can be slow with a basic UI, it’s suitable for those who need transparent pricing, lots of TLDs, and easy payments, including crypto.
7) GoDaddy
GoDaddy is an American domain name registrar trusted by over 21 million users and managing over 82 million domains worldwide. It also offers web hosting, email, security, and marketing tools.
Key Features
1) Affordable Domain Registrations and Transfers
If you are a first-time buyer, GoDaddy is a great place to start. Registering a .com domain and transferring it would cost you $11.99 (₹1,197), which is pretty decent.
2) Free Domain Privacy
GoDaddy offers free domain privacy with all its domain registrations. This ensures your personal details, like address and contact number, are protected.
3) Decent AI Business Name Generator
If you’re struggling to find the perfect name for your business, simply enter your idea into GoDaddy’s AI Business Name Generator. It gives you some unique suggestions. If you like a business name, you can search for all the TLDs available for that domain name.
4) Bulk Domain Search

5) UPI Payment Supported
GoDaddy supports multiple payment methods, like Credit cards, Debit cards, Net banking, and UPI. This is convenient for Indian users who prefer UPI payments.
6) GoDaddy Domain Auctions
GoDaddy even hosts auctions of expired domains. Here, you can easily buy expired domains and place bids as well. For each domain, you can check the number of bids placed, price, traffic, age, estimated value, backlinks, referring domains, etc.
7) Enormous Library of TLDs
Unlike most registrars offering 400-500 TLDs, GoDaddy supports a massive 700+ domain extensions on its website. This gives you a lot more TLD options to register your favorite site.
8) Good Sales Support
GoDaddy offers customer support via chat. Hindi call support is also available for Indian customers from 9 am through 7 pm every day. However, their maintenance support is average.
Cons
1) Expensive Domain Renewal
Renewing a domain is expensive on GoDaddy. For instance, a .com domain can be renewed for an expensive $21.99.
2) Aggressive Upsells at Checkout
GoDaddy is extremely aggressive at upselling its services. After adding a domain name to the cart, it tries to push the purchase of full domain protection, backups, professional email, etc.
3) 18-Day Renewal Grace Period
Unlike a standard 30-day renewal grace period offered by most domain registrars, GoDaddy only comes with an 18-day renewal grace period.
4) Confusing Pricing Structure
Beginners may get confused by the pricing structure of GoDaddy. For example, a .com domain on GoDaddy costs ₹1 for 1st year. However, you need to get a 3-year subscription to avail of this offer.
Pricing
TLD | Registration | Renewal |
.com | ₹1197 / $11.99 | ₹1499 / $21.99 |
.org | ₹1669 / $9.99 | ₹1599 / $22.99 |
.net | ₹1551 / $14.99 | ₹1699 / $24.99 |
.ai (2 years) | ₹19,498 / $194.98 | ₹24,574 / $289.98 |
.in | ₹683 / $12.99 | ₹749 / $12.99 |
Conclusion
GoDaddy is an established domain registrar with vast TLD choices, UPI payments, Hindi call support, free domain privacy, and unique extras like bulk domains and domain auctions.
However, I won’t recommend it to beginners due to its pushy upsells and expensive renewals. You can look at it if you wish to buy bulk domains and sell them in GoDaddy’s domain auctions.

Types of Domain Extensions
Top-Level Domains or TLDs can be categorized into three different types. Let’s take a look at them below.
1. Generic Top-Level Domains (gTLD)
gTLDs or Generic Top-Level Domains are not tied to a specific country or geographical location. These are international domains used and recognized across the globe. Right now, there are over 1000+ gTLDs available on the Internet. The following are the most popular gTLDs available.
gTLD | Purpose |
.com | Commercial websites |
.org | Organizations |
.net | Network-related websites |
.info | Informational websites |
.biz | Business websites |
.gov | Government websites |
.edu | Educational websites |
2. Country Code Top-Level Domain (ccTLD)
ccTLDs or Country-Code Top-Level Domains are domain extensions that are assigned to specific countries, regions, and territories. These are two-letter codes. Let’s look at some common examples of ccTLDs.
ccTLD | Country |
.in | India |
.uk | United Kingdom |
.us | United States |
.fr | France |
.jp | Japan |
.ca | Canada |
3. New Top-Level Domains (nTLD)
nTLDs or New Top-Level Domains are modern domain extensions for a wide range of use-cases. nTLDs allow you to choose an extension that matches your brand’s industry and niche. These are globally available and can be registered by anyone without restrictions.
The following table showcases the most commonly used nTLDs.
nTLD | Purpose |
.tech | Tech startups, developers, and IT services |
.shop | eCommerce and online stores |
.design | Designers, agencies |
.blog | Personal blogs |
.app | Mobile and web apps |
Domain Registrar vs Registry vs Registrant
Domain Registrars, as we saw above, are companies that handle the selling and management of domain names. Whereas, domain registries are slightly different. Let’s understand.
There are thousands of domain extensions available on the Internet. They are managed by a non-profit organization called ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers). It is basically responsible for managing to process of creating and managing new TLDs.
The ICANN delegates the management of specific TLDs and all domains registered under it to companies called “registries”. For example, .com and .net TLDs are managed by Verisign. Whereas .org is managed by Public Interest Registry (PIR).
To sell a TLD to customers, a domain registrar has to:
- Get authorized by the domain registry managing the TLD. (Like Verisign or PIR)
- Get accredited by ICANN to sell TLDs to its customers.
Finally, the customers who purchase these TLDs from registrars are known as registrants.
Factors to Consider When Choosing a Domain Registrar
Choosing the right domain registrar isn’t just about finding the cheapest deals. Your domain registrar plays a major role in managing your domain, keeping it safe, and managing its renewals on time.
If you’re confused between different registrars and unable to choose one, here are a few key factors you could consider.
- WHOIS Protection
When you register your domain with a registrar, your personal details, like name, address, and contact number, are visible to the public. This could lead to spam, identity theft, and more. To safeguard your information, registrars provide Whois protection for free or as a paid service.
- Domain Purchase and Renewal Cost
The cost of registering a domain name differs between registrars. Some registrars may charge a low price initially and offer discounts on the first year or bundled purchases. But always compare prices and check the renewal cost of the domain before making your purchase.
- Payment Methods
Always check the payment methods supported by the domain registrar. Most of them accept credit and debit cards and PayPal. But also check if your registrar supports digital wallets, cryptocurrency, and UPI payments if you are an Indian customer.
- Customer Support
Reliable customer support is crucial, especially if you run into technical issues or need urgent help with your domain. Look for registrars that offer 24/7 support via live chat, email, or phone, and check online reviews to get a sense of how responsive and helpful they are.
- Domain Security
Besides Whois privacy protection, it’s good to have other security features. Reputed registrars provide features like 2FA (two-factor authentication), domain transfer lock, DNSSEC, suspicious activity alerts, etc.
- User Interface
Managing your domain is much easier if you have a clean and intuitive interface. So, before making your purchase, always check if the registrar has a simple and user-friendly interface, with features that are easy to understand.
- Registrar’s Background and History
Before making your purchase decision, make sure to check the company’s reputation, history, years in operation, and client reviews. It is best to choose a registrar that’s accredited by ICANN and has a clean and transparent history with no shady practices.
- Upsells
During the check-out process, you’ll note that some domain registrars aggressively push add-ons like web hosting, security tools, professional email, etc. While some of them may be useful, others are just there to extend your bill!
So, always make sure to uncheck any extra services from your cart before making your payment.
How Did We Test These Domain Registrars?
To test domain name registrars, we browsed the Internet to find all the popular domain registrars people were using.
Then, we tested each of them on factors like registration, renewal, and transfer price, TLDs supported, AI domain name generator, payment methods, security features, upsells, support options, and additional services provided.
By default, all domain registrars listed above support Whois protection (free or paid), domain lock, renewal grace period (mostly 30 days), and auto-renewal of domains. Based on all the above factors, we ranked the domain registrars on our list and shared the best ones.

Sir your blog is really amazing. 👍
The amount of effort you put for topics, with your personal touch and experiences, makes it more valuable.
Glad you like the work 🙂
Sry, Include hioxindia.com in the list which would be the only Indian registrar.
Namecheap has to be removed from the list. What they did is unnaceptable. They went through their clients personal informaton and forced all russians to transfer out their domains as they have an office in ukraine. Many of he russians do not even support the war against ukraine. This was not reported even to be applauded by Ukraine supporters as they knew it was very wrong. It doesn’t matter who’s side you are we all know the war is political its not like russians got together and filed a petition with Putin to attack Ukraine. Lets not even get into the fact that Ukraine started this entire war in 2008 or around that time when they overthrew the Russian president and then started killing the russians so that he doesn’t win again.
Anyways the point here is tommorrow if India and pakistan fight and if Namecheap has offices in pakistan will they force every Indian to transfer out their domain. These is dangeorus any conflict they will take sides and we have to transfer out our doamins its a huge risk. Transferring is not a big deal But this bringing in poltics into business is not accepted They should have shut down or maybe only operating with ukraine clients but they supressed the news they knew they would face backlash but still did it as they are full of hatred. Immature hating company
Actually there NO good Domain registrars in india
1. Name cheap is Not indian Co. So support is very tough
2. Godaddy is very fast, but when you want to transfer domain out, because of the VERY high renewal prices, They will put you in a soup. You will be able to transfer easily. Keep 30 days grace period and 30-40 hours of work to get your domain transfer, if its a high valued domain
Godaddy has NOT email to raise any complaints, they only have 247 chat and phone support, who have no clue, except for when you are ready to Buying a domain…
3. Bigrock – good but the team has no clue, until we get one person, who know all the stuff and getting him/her might take hours or sometime day
