How To Use CapCut in India (2025)

Did you know that over 500 hours of video are uploaded every minute? Video content now makes up 92.3% of all online content—it’s incredible!

But, recording videos alone isn’t enough! You need useful software to edit with trendy effects, texts, and subtitles.

CapCut was once a popular editing app for beginners and PRO creators. However, in 2020, geographical restrictions were imposed on its use in India.

Its user-friendly interface, cool effects, and advanced features always impress creators like me. Fortunately, I’m still able to use CapCut in India, with a little trick. A VPN helps me mask my IP address and access the tool.

Are you excited about learning more? I’ll walk you through a step-by-step guide on how to use CapCut with a VPN for both Windows and Android. Plus, I’ll share a list of reliable VPN services and some popular CapCut alternatives. Let’s get started!

Why is Capcut Banned in India?

For video enthusiasts and content creators, Capcut was a go-to app. In June 2020, it was officially banned in India under the Information Technology Act of 2000. The decision was taken to prioritize citizens’ privacy and security. But, it leaves many professional video editors worried.

CapCut video-editing software is developed by ByteDance, a Chinese IT company. It was banned, along with other 59 popular ByteDance apps like TikTok, UC Browser, Shein, etc. The reasons behind these bans include:

  • Data collection: These Chinese apps have been flagged in many countries for collecting and spying on user data.
  • Content Censorship: Some countries enforce restrictions because of concerns about intellectual property matters and censorship.
  • Language support: Limited language support may hinder the app’s accessibility in certain regions.

Capcut is also banned in Afghanistan. The US government has not yet banned this app. But they have taken actions, such as executive orders and legislative discussions regarding other Chinese apps.

Why Should You Use Capcut?

Since Capcut was banned in India, it’s become difficult for professionals to access it. People still love this editing software and want access to it by any means. Why are people so enthusiastic about Capcut? Let’s find out!

  • Easy-to-Use Interface: Unlike other professional editing software, CapCut’s UI is clean and intuitive. All features are visible, especially on the mobile app.
  • Watermark-Free Tool: CapCut is a free editing software that allows you to export videos with no watermarks.

  • Lightweight and Accessible: Many video editing software require high-end laptops or desktops. CapCut, however, can run smoothly on any low-end PC or mobile device, requiring minimal configurations.
  • Free Features: Capcut lets you use advanced features without hefty monthly charges. You can enjoy AI color correction, background removal, video and image upscaling, portrait generator, AI dubbing, sticker & avatar generator, and more, all for free.
  • Huge Collection of Templates: You’ll find a good collection of easy-to-access templates. These are free and of high quality.
  • Extensive Resources: This tool provides 500,000+ music tracks, 46,000+ stickers, 13,000+ text options, 200+ filters, and 11,000+ special effects.
  • Audio Collection: The music library includes a huge collection of trendy songs. You can even import your preferred audio or use it from their copyrighted collection.
  • Team Collaboration: If you’re working as a team, you can invite other members to collaborate on your projects.

Beyond video editing, CapCut offers some of the best-in-class AI tools:

  1. Dreamina (text-to-image generator)
  2. Long Video to Shorts (social media short video creator)
  3. Speech (text-to-speech generator)

Best VPNs for CapCut in 2024

Should you use a paid or free VPN for CapCut? Of course, a paid VPN!

Premium VPNs are backed by trusted authority. They follow strict no-log policies and their security measures are independently audited. Plus, free VPNs are used by bulk users, which causes VPN-induced latency. To get the best connection speed and optimum experience, I recommend using a paid VPN.

But which VPN should you use? Below are the top VPNs for Capcut.

1. NordVPN for Best Speed

NordVPN, based in Panama, is my top favorite. It’s backed by Nord Security, which is popular with their other cybersecurity products NordPass and NordLocker. The VPN offers excellent speed with negligible ping. I haven’t faced any lagging issues while downloading or even using the Capcut app. The paid plans start at $12.99 per month. Use my discount link to get the best price on the annual plan!

2. Surfshark for Affordable Plans

SurfShark is my second favorite VPN for CapCut. Although this Netherlands-based VPN is well-known for speed, I have faced slight lagging issues while downloading CapCut.
