Jio Cloud Review
Summary
JioCloud offers a modern UI, fast upload speeds across India, strong security features, and AI-powered tools on its mobile app. However, it lacks advanced sharing options, in-app editing, block-level syncing, and live chat support.
It’s a good choice for users who need basic cloud storage with fast speeds in India but not for those seeking advanced privacy and collaboration features.

- Jio Cloud Storage FAQ
What is JioCloud?
JioCloud is a cloud storage service founded by Mr. Mukesh Ambani (the chairman of Reliance Industries) in 2015. This service allows users to access their documents and media files and share them with others online.
They have also integrated AI into their cloud storage, with features like Memories, AI Document Scanner, AI Magic, and more. Recently, they launched an exciting offer where Jio users could unlock a massive 100 GB of cloud storage for free!
JioCloud User Interface
The user interface of JioCloud has improved significantly in the last few years. It used to have an orange and white theme back in 2021. Now, they have revamped their entire design to a more professional blue and white theme.
As you log in to the JioCloud dashboard, you will find your recently accessed and recently uploaded files. On the left panel, you can access all the primary features of JioCloud and also download its apps for mobile and desktop devices.
The top right corner houses options for accessing account settings and FAQs. Overall, the UI of JioCloud is appealing and easy to use for beginners and professionals alike.
JioCloud Data Centers & Jurisdiction
The data center of JioCloud is headquartered in Jamnagar, Gujarat (India). It does not fall under the 5-Eyes, 9-Eyes, or 14-Eyes Alliances that share intelligence data between countries. Thus, it is safer compared to Sync and Dropbox, which belong to the 5-Eyes Alliance.
JioCloud Speeds
To test out the speeds of JioCloud, I uploaded and downloaded a 200 MB video file with a network speed of 30 Mbps. Let’s look at the results.
- Upload time: 1 min 15 sec
- Download time: 56 sec
I was pretty impressed with how quickly the entire video was uploaded and downloaded. If you need cloud storage to swiftly transfer your data, you should definitely check out JioCloud! If speeds are your top priority, also check out pCloud, Mega, and Sync cloud storage.
JioCloud File History and Recovery
1) Trash Folder
When you delete a file from your cloud vault, it is sent to the trash folder. Files are stored in the trash till you manually delete or restore them. It occupies storage space on your cloud drive. So, if you ever want to free up some space, try cleaning up your trash folder first.
2) File Revisions
When you edit your synced documents on your desktop apps, the updates are saved as different versions. JioCloud stores up to 100 versions of a file, which is more than sufficient. So, if your work revolves around editing documents, this is a good cloud storage to try!
JioCloud Security
If you are concerned about data security, JioCloud comes with some interesting features to safeguard your security.
- Device lock: On the mobile app, you can lock your JioCloud vault with your Touch ID, Face ID, pin, or pattern. It also lets you create a custom passphrase to lock your account.
- Private Folder: On the web version, you can create a password-protected folder to store sensitive files. It can be unlocked with OTP verification, ensuring only you can access it.
- 2FA: JioCloud supports two-factor authentication. When logging in to JioCloud on any of your devices, you need to enter your registered email or mobile number along with an OTP.
- Account Data Export: The web version of JioCloud allows you to export your entire JioCloud data on your device.
- TLS/SSL Encryption: They use TLS/SSL Encryption to transmit data between JioCloud apps and their servers. But in my opinion, AES 256-bit encryption is the strongest encryption standard.
- Remote Log Out: You can check the devices logged in to your JioCloud account and remotely log any or all of them out with a single click.
JioCloud File Syncing
File syncing is an essential feature of cloud storage. JioCloud supports selective sync, meaning you can select specific folders from your desktop device you wish to sync with the cloud. I liked its swift sync speeds!
Similarly, when you use its mobile app, you get an auto-backup option for photos, videos, documents, contacts, audio, and notifications. You can select your preferred options and sync them with the cloud.
However, unlike pCloud and Icedrive, it doesn’t come with a block-level sync option. It also lacks a virtual drive that makes your cloud vault function like an external hard drive for your system. I hope they include these features in the future.
JioCloud File Sharing
JioCloud comes with basic options for sharing your files. You can share your data via public links or by privately sharing through email ID. It also lets you select if the recipient can view or edit the shared data.
Under the Shared Files tab, you can look at the files shared by you, files shared with you, and shared links. Overall, it lacks advanced sharing options like link expiry date, password protection, link statistics, etc. For better sharing options, check out Sync, Icedrive, Tresorit, etc.
JioCloud Documents Preview and Editing
JioCloud offers built-in viewers for viewing doc files, PDFs, PPTs, and Excel files. You get basic viewers for Doc and PDF files with no zooming options.
Additionally, the platform doesn’t support file editing. You can edit your files in external apps on your device.
JioCloud Playback Features
Talking about playback features, you get built-in players for previewing your audio, video, and image files. The audio and video players have the option to seek your file forward or backward by 10 seconds.
Additionally, the video player also lets you adjust the quality and speed of your video. Overall, JioCloud’s media players are decent. I wish there were more customization options. Also, a music visualizer would’ve been a nice addition to the audio player.
JioCloud Additional Features
DigiWallet
An interesting feature within JioCloud is DigiWallet. It basically integrates with Digi Locker to let you access your essential documents like your marksheet, driving license, Aadhaar card, etc.
Albums
Previously called “Boards”, the Albums feature makes collaboration with others possible. You can create an album and upload data into it. Then you can share it with others via public link, email, WhatsApp, or Twitter.
Users will need to log in to their JioCloud account to upload data to your album. What I found weird was that you won’t find any options to create a new album within the Albums tab. To create a new album, you need to click on the New tab on the dashboard.
For better collaboration options, check out Google Drive, pCloud, or Icedrive.
JioCloud Devices
JioCloud features functional apps for all devices, including Windows, Mac, Android, iOS, TV, and JioPhone. The desktop app is lightweight and doesn’t take up much space on your device. However, it’s a pretty limited app that only allows you to access settings and account details.
Its mobile version features a modern UI and supports English and Hindi languages. It allows you to back up contacts and mark your files as offline. You also get decent built-in players for viewing PDFs, videos, and audio. However, you cannot open Word documents, PPTs, Excel files, etc.
The JioCloud mobile app has a cool new feature called AI Magic. With this tool, you can transform your photos into avatars, create festive greetings, erase backgrounds, and experiment with clothes, faces, accessories, and more.
Overall, the AI Magic tool on JioCloud was pretty impressive.
JioCloud Privacy Policy
The privacy policy of JioCloud is decent. Besides sharing basic personal information, usage data, device data, location data, tracking data, etc, they also share your data with:
- Affiliates for service delivery, advertising, payment processing, and customer service.
- External organizations when legally required. (e.g., law enforcement, fraud prevention, security issues)
- Third-party service providers for improving functionality and performance.
JioCloud follows the Indian IT laws and has been accredited by MeitY (Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, India). However, their privacy policy is still not that strong.
I hope they also try to incorporate GDPR and offer provisions to erase user data or opt out of sharing data with the company. If you want to store sensitive files, consider going with more secure providers like pCloud or Icedrive.
JioCloud Pricing
JioCloud doesn’t feature individual pricing tiers. It features an Enterprise plan that’s equipped with advanced features like AES 256-bit encryption, editing and versioning, advanced search, document scanner, and more. For more information, you can check out the JioCloud Enterprise page.
Free Plan
JioCloud offers a forever free plan, where you get 5 GB of storage space to store your files and folders. Recently, they also launched their Jio AI-Cloud Welcome Offer, where they provided 100 GB of free storage to eligible users.
Refund Policy
Unfortunately, JioCloud doesn’t offer any refunds in case you cancel or terminate your subscription.
JioCloud Support
JioCloud offers customer support via FAQs and How-to videos. Beginners can watch their videos and understand how to use the platform effectively.
Their knowledge base is not as extensive as other cloud storage providers. They also don’t provide live chat support despite being in service for so many years. I hope they introduce live chat support soon.
JioCloud Pros
1) Modern UI
The user interface of JioCloud has undergone a massive change in the last few years. It’s cleaner, easy to navigate, and has a modern and friendly design.
2) Swift Speeds
JioCloud is headquartered in Gujarat. So you’ll experience fast speeds from all across India. I was impressed with how quickly I could upload and download a large video file on JioCloud. If your priority is uploading files to the cloud, JioCloud is a good option.
3) Good Security Options
To keep your data safe on the cloud, JioCloud offers security features like 2FA support, TLS/SSL encryption, Private folder, Device lock, Remote logout, etc. However, they should also introduce zero-knowledge encryption for added safety.
4) Apps for All Devices
JioCloud comes with fully functional apps for all devices, including Windows, Mac, Android, iOS, TV, and JioPhone. Thus, you get easy access to your files anywhere and anytime.
5) AI Tools on Mobile App
JioCloud’s mobile app is pretty solid! Besides all the key features, it’s equipped with the AI Magic tool. It uses artificial intelligence to transform your photos into cool avatars and also offers photo editing features.
6) File Versioning Support
Unlike other popular cloud providers, JioCloud lets you create up to 100 revisions of your files and keeps them stored on their servers.
JioCloud Cons
1) Basic Sharing Options
JioCloud lets you share your files via public links or privately through email ID. It doesn’t come with advanced sharing options like password protection, link expiry, link statistics, etc.
2) No In-App Editing
Though you can preview and playback your files on JioCloud, it doesn’t offer any options for editing your files within the app. You can edit your files on the local apps on your device.
3) No Block-Level Syncing
JioCloud supports the selective sync feature on its desktop and mobile devices. However, it doesn’t support block-level sync like pCloud, Dropbox, OneDrive, etc.
4) Limited Support
Despite being in service for several years, JioCloud still doesn’t offer live chat support to its customers. You only get support via FAQs and how-to videos. I hope they introduce chat and call support in the future.
5) Login Restrictions
You need a registered Jio phone number or email ID to log in to JioCloud. It doesn’t allow any other methods of accessing JioCloud.
6) Average Privacy Policy
The privacy policy of JioCloud is decent. They follow the Indian IT laws and have been accredited by MeitY. However, they may share your data with external organizations when required by law. I hope they also followed regulations like GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA, etc.
JioCloud Alternatives
JioCloud vs pCloud
pCloud and JioCloud both offer modern UI and multi-platform availability. Both prioritize your security with features like 2FA and encryption. However, pCloud distinguishes itself with advanced features like block-level syncing, pCloud Rewind, virtual drive, and robust file sharing.
pCloud is based in Switzerland, and benefits from strong privacy laws, while JioCloud adheres to Indian IT laws. The free plan of pCloud offers 10 GB of storage. Whereas, its paid plans start at $19.99/year for 100GB of cloud space, providing a good range of options for different storage needs.
JioCloud vs Icedrive
Icedrive and JioCloud both offer a friendly interface and emphasize security, including features like 2FA. However, Icedrive differentiates itself by offering a virtual drive, advanced sync and collaboration, and document editing, all features absent in JioCloud.
Icedrive also provides WebDAV access. Its free plan offers 10 GB of free storage. Whereas, paid plans start at $3.99/year for 100GB of cloud space, making it a potentially more budget-friendly option depending on your storage needs.
Why Should You Trust Me?
I’ve been working full-time in the digital industry since 2015. In these years, I have thoroughly used, tested, and reviewed all popular cloud storage services. These include pCloud, Icedrive, Sync, etc. You can find detailed reviews on my blog and YouTube channel.
For this review, I’ve spent a few weeks testing all the key features of Proton Drive on all devices and apps. My experience and expertise in the field of cloud storage have made me capable of recommending you the best service for your needs.
Conclusion
JioCloud stands out with its modern UI, fast upload speeds, strong security features, and AI-powered tools on its mobile app. The support for multiple devices and file versioning makes it a solid choice.
However, it lacks advanced sharing options, in-app editing, block-level syncing, and live chat support, which might be deal-breakers for some users. The privacy policy could also use improvements to match global standards.
If your priority is speed, security, and multi-device access, you can look at JioCloud. But if you need advanced sharing and sync options, better customer service, and file editing support, you can check out these Best Cloud Storage and Free Cloud Storage options.
Anyway, this is Kripesh signing off. I’ll be back with more interesting articles soon. Cheers, and keep learning! 😊
