About Suno AI?

Suno AI is an AI-powered text-to-music generation platform. It was founded in 2023 by four machine learning experts – Mikey Shulman, Keenan Freyberg, Georg Kucsko, and Martin Camacho.

Suno AI homepage

Suno AI aims to build a future where anyone can create good music, from bathroom singers to professional musicians. It sets itself apart by not just generating lyrics, vocals, and instrumental music, but also offering a relevant title and artwork for your song cover.

How Does Suno AI Work?

Suno AI uses machine learning models trained on extensive amounts of musical data and lyrics. This is how it learns the intricacies of music, like genre, tone, pitch, rhythm, instruments, etc. Then, it analyzes your input and generates an original song according to your description.

How Do AI Music Generators Work

Recently, in March 2024, they launched the Suno V3 model, that is a significant improvement over the V2 model. It supports more styles and music genres and offers better audio quality. It allows users to generate complete 2-minute songs within seconds.

Suno AI User Interface

The user interface of Suno AI looks super attractive with a dark theme that prevents eye strain. It offers a fast, responsive, and modern dashboard, featuring a list of the trending and new songs generated by Suno AI.

Tips for Writing Good Song Prompts

Struggling to generate high-quality refined songs? The problem might be your prompt. For producing a great song, you need a detailed prompt specifying precisely what you want. Following are some tips for writing good song prompts.

1) Specify Genre and Instruments

Always make sure to add the song genre along with the musical instruments you wish to include. Some examples of genres and instruments include:

  • Genres: Pop, Rock, Country, Hip-Hop, Classical, Folk, EDM, Jazz, Rhythm & Blues, etc.
  • Instruments: Piano, Flute, Violin, Drums, Guitar, Cello, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, etc.

2) Add Mood and Emotion

Next, you need to set the mood and emotion you want to express through your song. Some examples could be happy, sad, angry, mysterious, love, hopeful, energetic, reflective, nostalgic, etc.

3) Add Tempo Specifications

The tempo or pace of the song is also an important point to specify in your prompt. You can either mention keywords such as ‘fast-paced’, ‘slow-paced’, and ‘moderate tempo’ or mention the BPM (beats per minute) of your song.

For reference, here are the BPM implemented in different types of songs.

  • Slow Songs: 20-60 BPM
  • Moderate Songs: 61-120 BPM
  • Fast Songs: 121-200 BPM

4) Outline Song Structure

If you have a specific structure in mind for your song, it can be defined in your prompt as well. For instance, you can describe in detail how the song will begin, what will follow next, and how it will end.

5) Avoid Artist Names

Due to copyright issues, Suno AI doesn’t allow you to generate songs in the style of a specific artist. So, make sure to avoid mentioning the names of any singers in your song prompts.

But if you still wish to generate songs in the styles of specific artists, check out this Complete List of Prompts and Styles for Suno AI by Travis Nicholson.

Suno AI Sample Prompt and AI Songs

We generated two songs – instrumental and lyrical, incorporating all the tips mentioned above. Following is the song prompt along with the generated audio. Check it out!

Suno AI Cons

1) Limited Customization

Apart from editing the song lyrics and style, there is very little you can do to customize your generated songs.

2) Sometimes Sounds Robotic and Auto-tuned

At times, the AI-generated vocals sound slightly robotic and the AI lyrics feel like they were generated with ChatGPT. Most of the AI vocals seem to be heavily auto-tuned as well!

3) Inaccuracy with ‘Continue’ Feature

If you wish to extend a song into a complete long-form song, the Continue feature doesn’t offer the same vibe and ambiance despite choosing the same music style.
